Operate specialised mammography equipment to produce high-quality images
Mammography utilises x-ray imaging to screen breasts within a hospital or in a community setting, such as a mobile breast screening unit or medical centre. As an apprentice working under the supervision of a radiographer, you’ll train in the mammography of individuals as part of a breast screening programme, as well as those with symptoms of breast disease. You’ll develop a good understanding of breast anatomy, physiology and pathology, including clinical signs and symptoms of breast cancer, and knowledge of ionising radiation regulations. You’ll learn technical skills in the operation of specialised equipment and will be responsible for monitoring equipment function and performance. You’ll work toward being able to produce images of consistently high quality to meet rigorous NHS Breast Screening Programme standards. You’ll need excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to providing high-quality care for individuals.

Entry requirements: Disclosure and Barring Service check
Achievement upon completion: Level 4 (Higher)—equivalent to a foundation degree
Potential salary upon completion: £25,000 per annum
