Operate and maintain storage sites for liquids, gases, and bulk materials
As a bulk storage terminal technician apprentice, you’ll learn how to safely store and transfer large quantities of substances such as oil, chemicals, gases, and food-grade materials at specialist storage terminals. These sites are essential for keeping supply chains running in industries like energy, agriculture, and manufacturing.
During your apprenticeship, you’ll gain skills in operating pumps, valves, pipelines, and loading systems. You’ll monitor storage tanks, control flows, take samples, and carry out checks to make sure materials are handled safely and meet environmental standards. You’ll also learn to respond to emergencies, follow strict safety procedures, and carry out basic maintenance.
You’ll work both indoors and outdoors, often in all weather, and may be part of a shift team to keep operations running 24/7. Accuracy, responsibility, and a strong safety focus are key.
With experience, you could become a control room operator, team leader, or move into roles in site management or logistics.
