Carry out a range of services and repairs to cars, vans and light goods vehicles
An autocare technician will work for a national chain or independent garage. During the autocare technician apprenticeship, you’ll learn a unique combination of technical, retail and customer service skills, and train in the use of a range of tools, measuring and diagnostic equipment to identify and repair simple system faults. You’ll develop expertise in the technical elements of your role and a good grasp of the practical and theoretical aspects of the vehicle systems that you service. You’ll also develop excellent telephone, customer handling and sales skills, as well as strong problem-solving and self-organisation skills. You must be able to work as part of a team but also operate independently, understand how your centre operates from a commercial perspective, and how your actions contribute to business results, while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
Duration: 30 months

Entry requirements for the autocare technician apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent
Achievement upon completion: Level 2 (Intermediate)—equivalent to GCSEs
Potential salary upon completion: £24,000 per annum
