Medical statistician apprenticeship

Provide statistical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team

During the medical statistician apprenticeship you can work in a range of industries including the pharmaceutical, healthcare, medical device technology, biotechnology, food and environmental safety and the academic sectors. In this role you’ll ensure research studies are designed, conducted, analysed, interpreted and reported in a way that is statistically valid, so conclusions are trustworthy and reliable. In your daily work, you’ll interact with regulatory bodies, ethics committees, scientists, clinical teams and medical writers to ensure the work they conduct is statistically valid. You’ll need good problem solving skills and an interest of current methodological developments in medical research. You may need to attend conferences and share your knowledge in medical publications and tutorials for statistics colleagues.

 

Duration: 30 months

Relevant school subjects: Science, ICT, maths

Entry requirements for the medical statistician apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely a 2:2 degree in a numerically based subject.

Achievement upon completion: Level 7 (Higher)—equivalent to a master’s degree

Potential salary upon completion: £37,000 per annum
