Maintain and renovate sports surfaces
A sports turf operative, which may also be referred to as a groundsperson or grounds maintenance operative, ensures that public and private sports facilities are available for use. As a sports turf operative, you’ll be responsible for the maintenance and renovation and overall appearance of one or more sports turf surfaces in accordance with the needs of the particular sport. It’ll be your job to maintain an appropriate quality playing surface that reflects the carrying capacity of that surface. The career can be quite varied, so you’ll potentially work across a range of different sports and venues, including athletics, bowls, cricket, croquet, football, hockey, horse racing, rugby, and tennis, and ranging from general park-type sports surfaces up to first-class stadia. The sports turf operative apprenticeship will mostly be undertaken outdoors and in changing conditions.
