A waste resources operative is the general description for an important role found throughout the collection, transport, processing, disposal and recycling of waste and recyclables. As a waste resources operative apprenticeship, you may work at a number of different sites and locations, including waste recycling centres, recycling facilities and transfer stations. During the apprenticeship, you’ll develop an understanding of the principles of waste and recycling. This will include identifying waste and recyclables, sorting and segregation, treatment options, duty of care, and health, safety, quality and environmental issues. You’ll assist in the day-to-day running of the site or activity, to ensure that processes are carried out safely and efficiently. You’ll also contribute to the protection of the environment, efficient use of resources and enhancing quality in compliance with relevant regulations.

 

Duration: 12 months

Relevant school subjects: Science and geography

Entry requirements for the waste resources operative apprenticeship: Depend on employer

Achievement upon completion: Level 2 (Intermediate)—equivalent to GCSEs

Potential salary upon completion: £18,000
