Bespoke furniture maker apprenticeship

Produce and assemble bespoke pieces of furniture to meet customers’ requirements

During the bespoke furniture maker apprenticeship, you’ll interact with a range of people including designers, production and manufacturing managers, quality technicians, production leaders and product developers. You’ll need to work closely with designers and installation teams. Bespoke furniture makers will work alone or within small teams with other makers and will be responsible for liaising with colleagues and suppliers and in some roles with customers. You’ll be responsible for interpreting and challenging designs and offering solutions, selecting appropriate materials, making the components and assembling pieces of furniture using machinery and hand production techniques. As a bespoke furniture maker, you’ll also produce prototypes to help bring designs to life, and produce complex jigs and templates. Materials you’ll work with will include wood, metals, glass, plastics, fabric, finishes and other relevant materials.

 

Duration: 24 months

Relevant school subjects: DT and art

Entry requirements for the bespoke furniture maker apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience

Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels

Potential salary upon completion: £22,000
