PRCA: Georgia Cantrill

Georgia Cantrill is a PR and communications apprentice at Altecnic Ltd, training with PRCA

Leaving school during Covid was a strange and unnerving time, with many of my friends adamant on going to university and some starting work full-time. For me, I knew that I wanted to continue my studies, however I wasn’t sold on the idea of university. Luckily, I found out about the PRCA apprenticeship and being from the Midlands, I was worried that I would not find a role near to me and would have to rethink my career move. However, the stars aligned and I found that a company near to me, Altecnic Ltd, were looking for a PR and communications apprentice.

The last year has been a roller coaster: being in and out of lockdowns; planning and re-planning activity; only meeting my colleagues over Teams; and feeling slightly isolated from the busy world of PR. Despite all of this, I have still been able to fully immerse myself in my role and my learning.

My apprenticeship has helped me flourish in my interpersonal skills, developing relationships with a range of people who work in different roles to me. Through my regular communication with various media channels, I have been able to understand the change in the media landscape and how to attain optimal coverage for Altecnic. As well as this, my own confidence has grown as I have been given my own campaigns to run, as well as overseeing events and launching a technical magazine for the company.

Through the theory work that I have completed I have been able to expand my understanding of my role and how to optimise my learning to ensure that I meet the needs of Altecnic, growing their brand reputation alongside my own. My mentor and all members of the PRCA have been extremely helpful, offering advice and guidance to ensure that I get the most out of my experience.

Both Altecnic and the PRCA have given me countless opportunities to expand my knowledge and experience. I am proud to say that I am excited to see what the future may hold.
