Print operative apprenticeship

Print operative apprenticeship

Assist in the production of a printed product or component

Working within printing, packaging, creative or design industries, you could work on magazines and newspapers, packaging, greetings cards, printing onto other materials such as plastics or textiles, or physically printed security products such as passports and ID cards. The main purpose of a print operative is to follow instructions to assist in the production of a printed product using relevant equipment to meet the specification. As this is a core and options apprenticeship, you’ll need to choose one option from pre-press operative, press operative, or post-press operative. Pre-press operatives receive customer files and prepare them for printing, checking for any errors. Press operatives set up the printing press, reporting any issues and preparing the print machinery. Post-press operatives set up the finishing equipment, inspecting the output and reporting any issues. Typically office-based, you’ll be working in a production environment and may need to wear protective clothing.
