AstraZeneca: Thomas Crewe

AstraZeneca: Thomas Crewe

As a science industry maintenance technician at AstraZeneca, apprentice Thomas Crewe, 21, works behind the scenes to keep the manufacturing plants running

How long have you worked for AstraZeneca? What do you enjoy about your role?

I’m in my final year of a four-year apprenticeship and love the variety of work I do. From working on very small pieces of equipment to conducting work on large pressure vessels, each day is different. I work behind the scenes to keep the manufacturing plants running and drug supplies available for patients.

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship at AstraZeneca?

I live near to the site and wanted to see what opportunities were available. This apprenticeship offered me experience via rotations in chemical plants, sterile production areas and packaging lines. The majority of technicians here did apprenticeships and they’re always willing to help and share their knowledge.

How would you describe the culture at AstraZeneca?

We always put the patients first, ensuring that every one of our products is of the highest quality, and from an engineering perspective, we ensure that the manufacturing equipment is serviced and maintained to the highest quality possible.

What would you say has been the most interesting/rewarding project that you have been involved in and why?

Everything we do here interests me and it’s rewarding when you walk out of the door each day knowing the plant and equipment are running to the highest standard. Safety for us, our teams and our patients ensures we can deliver life changing medicines.
