Restore and preserve antique and modern furniture to high standards

As a furniture restorer apprentice, you’ll learn to repair, conserve, and refurbish furniture pieces, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques. Your work will involve assessing damage, stripping finishes, repairing wood and upholstery, and applying finishes to bring furniture back to life.

During your apprenticeship, you’ll gain skills in woodwork, finishing techniques, upholstery, and understanding the history and materials of furniture styles. You’ll learn how to use hand and power tools safely and apply knowledge of conservation ethics and health and safety regulations.

You’ll work carefully and patiently, paying close attention to detail to preserve the authenticity and value of each piece. With experience, you could specialise in antique restoration, bespoke furniture creation, or manage your own restoration workshop.

Duration: 36 months
Relevant school subjects: Art and design, design and technology, history
Entry requirements: Level 1 English and maths, with Level 2 required before completing the apprenticeship; employer-specific requirements may apply
Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced) – equivalent to two A-levels
Potential salary upon completion: £20,000–£27,000 per annum
