District nurse apprenticeship

Care for patients with a wide range of health conditions

As a district nurse, you will work with adults of all ages and from all communities, in settings such as primary care, social care, third sector organisations, hospitals including mental health, hospices, prisons and other community services, to ensure that patients get the right care, at the right time, every time. You’ll assess and care for patients with a wide range of health conditions and will be accountable for a large and varied caseload, prioritising care, assessing risk, prescribing medication, and changing dressings and appliances in accordance with legislation. During the district nurse apprenticeship, you’ll interact with patients, their carers and relatives and a wide variety of health and social care professionals, including GPs, social workers and hospital staff.

 

Duration: 24 months

Relevant school subjects: Science

Entry requirements for the district nurse apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience

Achievement upon completion: Level 7 (Degree)—equivalent to a master’s degree

Potential salary upon completion: £35,000
