Furniture making operative apprenticeship

Help produce furniture for homes, workplaces, and public spaces

As a furniture making operative apprentice, you’ll learn how to manufacture furniture using both hand and machine tools. You’ll be involved in producing a wide range of items, including fitted and free-standing furniture for domestic, office, or commercial use.

During your apprenticeship, you’ll gain skills in measuring, marking out, cutting, assembling, and finishing different furniture components. You’ll work with materials like solid wood, board, laminates, and veneers, following technical drawings and working to precise specifications.

You’ll need good hand–eye coordination, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions and health and safety procedures. This role suits people who enjoy practical work and creating quality items that are both functional and attractive.
