Junior Journalist Apprenticeship

Create news stories using words, pictures, audio, video and social media

Working within the media industry, such as TV, radio, online, social media, newspapers, magazines, public relations and communications, you’ll help create content that informs, explains or entertains an audience. During the junior journalist apprenticeship, you’ll find, research and produce stories for different platforms, from written articles and live updates to video, audio interviews, podcasts and social media content. In your day-to-day work, you may speak to contacts, carry out interviews, check facts, monitor social media, attend events, research data and help create content that matches the style and audience of your employer. You’ll learn how to work to deadlines, use audience analytics, verify information and adapt stories for different formats. You’ll also need to understand media law, ethics, copyright, reporting restrictions and relevant codes of practice, as accuracy and fairness are essential in journalism. This role suits someone who is curious, confident communicating with different people, able to work under pressure and interested in what is happening in the world around them.
