What to Expect

Starting a British Gas apprenticeship means stepping into a training experience that’s been shaped by decades of expertise.

Your journey is built around a powerful balance: time spent in our award-winning academies, and time out in the field with a dedicated mentor.

In the academies, you’ll get hands-on with the latest tools, technologies, and safety practices in a supportive environment designed to build your confidence from day one. It’s where you’ll experiment, make mistakes, ask questions, and grow—surrounded by people who genuinely want to see you succeed.

But the real magic happens when you take that learning out on patch. Working alongside your mentor, you’ll see how everything comes together in real homes, with real customers, and real challenges. This is where you sharpen your instincts, learn how to think on your feet, and start to feel like a true engineer.

Apprentice Electrician

This is your chance to kickstart a career that powers homes, energises communities, and lights up lives. As an Apprentice Electrician, you won’t just learn the ropes – you’ll master them. From day one, you’ll be absorbing knowledge, sharpening your skills, and working toward becoming a fully qualified Domestic Electrician – a true household hero.

Apprentice Gas Service & Repair Engineer

From day one, you’ll learn alongside experienced engineers, mastering everything from servicing and maintaining to repairing and upgrading central heating systems. You’ll be at the heart of delivering energy-efficient solutions that make a real difference to families every day.

Metering Apprentice

Smart meters are the in-home technology opening the door to a greener, more sustainable future. By sending data in real time, they help customers see exactly how much energy they’re using – in pounds and pence – giving them the confidence to make informed choices and save money.

As a Metering apprentice, you’ll learn far more than how to install and repair meters. You’ll build the skills to explain, reassure and support customers, making sure they understand how to get the very best from their energy use.

Apprentice Heating Installation Engineer

At our award-winning academies, you’ll gain the knowledge, hands-on skills, and recognised qualifications to become a first-class Installations Engineer.

This isn’t just another job – it’s a practical, hands-on role where you’ll build skills for life. Yes, it’s challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. Installing and upgrading heating systems, you’ll play a vital part in ensuring homes stay warm and comfortable, and kettles keep boiling.
