Meet Kyle, who is currently completing his Level 2 Animal Care apprenticeship at Charney Pet Care Centre. Kyle talks to us about his apprenticeship experience so far, what his job role entails, and his hopes for the future.
My name is Kyle, I work at Charney Pet Care Centre which is a kennels and I help care for the cats and dogs here. I walk them, feed them and clean out their accommodations. I make sure they are happy and healthy and do everything that I can to ensure they have their needs met. What inspired you to pursue a career working with animals? I love animals! When I was younger I always wanted to work in a zoo and I was able to get an opportunity to work here which is perfect.
I heard it’s the best place to learn with animal care and get into the industry. What things have you learnt so far on your apprenticeship that you will carry forward with you in your career (or personally)? I have learnt a lot from my animal behaviour module, I now can recognise successfully animal behaviours and can see what behavioural responses to look for. I use this at work and on walks with my own dogs.
Reuben is very supportive and is always there to help and aid me. He ensures that I am always progressing and to the working to the best of my ability.
Laura helps me understand my modules and workbooks, making learning fun and interactive, even with boring subjects. She ensures I grasp everything by the end of our sessions.
I would like to progress to my Level 3 and in the future I would like to possibly manage my own kennels or animal behaviour centre and help train dogs.

Meet Robyn, who is currently completing her Level 3 Team Leader apprenticeship at Judy Harvey Dressage. Robyn tells us how she started out in the equine world, her apprenticeship experience so far, and her future goals.
What motivated / inspired you to want to work with horses?
I have always loved horses from a young age, my grandad took myself and my sister for our first riding lesson when we were three years-old and he thought it would be a one off, but twenty-two years later I am still loving horses! My career in dressage was inspired by the London 2012 Olympics. Watching riders like Carl Hester display such harmony and partnership with their horses was breath-taking. It motivated me to push my limits and strive for greater achievements in the sport.
What is an accomplishment you are proudest of so far?
My competition career so far! When I started working for Judy Harvey back in 2018 I had little to no dressage experience, so I had to work really hard to improve my riding to get an opportunity to compete a horse. I have been competing a client’s horse for a few years now, and we are now at medium level which I am really proud of.
How have you found doing an apprenticeship with Haddon Training?
Haddon training is extremely organised which I love! My Trainer Coach, Darren, has been so helpful and supportive in my training sessions and explains everything in a way that I find easy to understand.
What are your hopes for the future?
I hope to continue with my competition career and see how far I can take it and I am also looking forward to putting the new skills I have learned on my Level 3 Team Leader apprenticeship into practice, and becoming a more developed yard manager and groom.
