Lindsey Williams, 18, is a retail apprentice with Aldi
Lindsey is from the Cardiff region, and had started sixth form in her home town when she decided to pursue a career in retail. She was accepted onto Aldi’s apprenticeship scheme in September 2014.
Working for Aldi, Lindsey receives comprehensive training in store as well as ongoing theory work, as she works towards achieving a level 3 retail management apprenticeship qualification.
Lindsey commented: “I was really interested in apprenticeships, and I came across Aldi’s scheme on the Career Wales website. I felt it would be suitable for my skill set.”
“The balance of theory and in-store work is great,” she says. “I spend on average around 30 hours a week in store; I also have to fit in several hours of studying, so I have to manage my time effectively.”
“We have a great team in my store, and I work alongside another apprentice; it’s really motivating being part of such a close-knit group of people. Working with different people is definitely one of the highlights of the job. My store manager is also flexible if I need to carry out certain tasks as part of my apprenticeship.”
In her day-to-day role, Lindsey is responsible for certain tasks throughout the day: “If I’m working a morning shift, I’ll be handling the deliveries, and I also spend a lot of time talking to customers and working on the tills. Thursdays and Sundays are particularly busy as these are ‘Specialbuys’ days, so we have to work as a team to get the job done.”
