Daniel Foreman, 19, is a project management apprentice based in major projects at Highways England in Guildford
Daniel is very happy working in project management. As he explained: “You have the ability to influence the transport infrastructure of this country, which has an impact on everyday road users.”
“In all honesty, at no point did I set out to pursue a career in engineering. However, since starting within Highways England, I’ve found the engineering concepts I engage with on a daily basis extremely intriguing.”
“As I work within the major projects directorate, the projects I am involved in are extremely complex and take several years to reach the close over and handout stage—so I’m yet to see a project reach completion. It’s rewarding seeing the project progress through its lifecycle.”
“A career at Highways England looks bright for the future as the company looks to prepare and build for our Road Investment Strategy (RIS) 2, meaning there are plenty of opportunities but there are lots of people to compete for them.”
“My top tips for potential candidates looking for a similar role to mine? Make sure that you are organised, which is essential to function within any professional environment but in particular for a trainee project manager.”
