Jack Caddick is a field technician apprentice with Virgin Media
I’m 19, from Liverpool and have just recently completed my residential field technician apprenticeship with Virgin Media, achieving a distinction grade.
I began my journey with Virgin Media in September 2019, after I had left my two-year role in an electrical installation apprenticeship. Throughout school I always knew that university was not something that I was interested in, I wanted to get straight into hands-on work and earn while I learn.
Growing up, technology has always been something I loved, learning how it works but also being able to show others how it works. With the role that I do in Virgin Media I get to show customers how our products work after I have installed them. This is something I take a lot of pride in.
While working and completing the apprenticeship you’re given study days, which for me were every two weeks. These study days allowed me time to focus on the coursework that I had to complete for my qualification. At first, I was worried about managing my coursework while working full time, but once I started it was second nature. If I ever found that I was struggling with something, there is always someone on the end of the phone willing to help me. At Virgin Media we take a lot of pride in working as a team and always being there for someone, whether they are stuck with something and need a second opinion, or to lend a helping hand if they are running late.
I really enjoyed my coursework, expanding my knowledge of networking and understanding how it all relays into my day-to-day role. Now that I have completed my apprenticeship and gained a real qualification, I want to help new starters and give them an idea of what the role is like.
Completing an apprenticeship at Virgin Media opened new doors for me, allowing me to work and be involved with something on a daily basis that I really enjoy, I take pride in what I do and would recommend joining Virgin Media to anyone.
