Cultural Learning & Participation Officer (Apprentice) - Job Ref: CLPO

Historic Royal Palaces is a team of people who love and look after six of the most wonderful palaces in the world and their magnificent historical gardens.   

We are recruiting for a Cultural Learning Participation Officer Apprentice, giving you a fantastic opportunity to grow and develop your skills whilst working at these historical sites.

This role will support the planning and delivery of an ambitious arts project at the Tower of London through creative engagement activities. This role will work alongside professional artists, producers, local community groups and people living in East London. The project will include puppetry, dance, and music, and will explore the theme of ‘animals’.

 

The Cultural Learning and Participation Officer will support activities at the Tower and offsite rehearsals and events, gaining understanding of the creative process and themes. They will work with the project team to support a wide-ranging arts engagement programme for residents of Tower Hamlets and East London. This programme will include activities for diverse individuals who experience barriers to accessing and engaging with the Tower of London and its stories. These barriers may be financial, physical, intellectual or cultural.

Our team is committed to working collaboratively with local people, for the long-term. This role will help us continue to engage with new partners, whilst nurturing and maintaining existing relationships. We would particularly welcome applicants who are resident in or have a strong relationship with Tower Hamlets and East London.

Over the course of this apprenticeship, we envision the responsibilities to grow, taking over more of the planning and delivery of onsite and offsite activities and event

Whilst studying towards your apprenticeship you will also be:

· Assisting with the co-ordination and delivery of engagement programmes for young people and adults.

· Attending engagement workshops to assist Lead Facilitators

· Attending rehearsals to learn about the Artistic Director’s creative process and assisting them as required.

· Supporting participants to access and engage with workshop and rehearsal content.

· Setting up spaces for meetings, rehearsals and activities.

· Meeting and greeting participants for visits and events.

· Sharing clear verbal and written communications with collaborators internally and externally about project activities

· Assisting the team in maintaining an up-to-date database of community partners that is clear and compliant with data protection standards.

· Supporting the team to ensure that events and activities adhere to Historic Royal Palaces policy and procedures and meet the expected health, safety, security and safeguarding standards.

· Working occasional weekends and evening to assist colleagues in the delivery of events at the Tower of London and at host venues in London. You will be able to take Time Off in Lieu (TOIL)

· Undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested by your manager.

More than anything we are looking for a passion for design, a creative mindset and potential, but, as this Apprenticeship starts at level 3 we do have a few eligibility requirements: 

 

  • You must be 18 years old or over on 2nd September 2025.  
  • Live in UK (resident in country role is based). 
  • You must not have completed a degree or equivalent level qualification in the UK or elsewhere and not already be in full-time education. 
  • Five GCSEs at grade C (or 4) or above, including English, science/engineering and mathematics (or equivalent)
