Founded in Port Sunlight (Wirral) in 1929 by Lord Lever, Unilever has more than 400 brands found in homes around the world, including Dove, TRESemmé, Lynx, Lifebuoy, Shea Moisture, Hellman’s, Persil, Domestos, Marmite, Graze, Vaseline, Sure, Colman’s and Pot Noodle.
Our goal is to deliver best-in-class performance with market making, unmissably superior brands. From our earliest days Unilever has been at the forefront of change always striving towards making a world where everyone can live well and within the natural limits of the planet. That’s why our purpose is ‘Brightening everyday life for all’.
What is the job?
Data science is one of the most exciting fields of studies today! A Data Science apprentice at Unilever will look to find information in diverse data sets to address complex problems and learn skills in computer science, statistics, data analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence and much more.
What do we look for?
You will have a passion for data and the opportunities it brings for speed and efficiency of decision-making as well as for creativity, innovation, and business impact. You will have an aptitude for mathematics, computation, and numerical analysis and a curiosity to find ever-newer ways to exploit data to deliver Unilever’s purpose and business goals. Alongside these technical strengths, you will also be encouraged to develop key softer skills such as digital literacy, data storytelling, business partnering, and project management—enabling you to translate insights into action, collaborate effectively across teams, and drive meaningful outcomes. You will have personal values that resonate with those of Unilever and a desire to work with others to achieve wonderful things for our consumers and our planet.
What could your day-to-day look like?
During the academic year, one day each week will be set aside for your data science study and learning. Your 4 days a week working in the Unilever business could each be quite different and will typically contain a mix of individually organised and driven work, such as email and Microsoft Teams correspondence and planning your time on and around business project work. The latter is where you help make the magic happen for business colleagues and their processes. On any given day you could be cleaning and improving the quality of data, creating models and dashboards, and exploring ways to use generative AI (Artificial Intelligence) to enhance productivity.
What support do we offer?
You will have a salaried full-time role for the duration of your apprenticeship, working approximately 80% of your time focusing on Unilever business challenges and 20% on academic and vocational data science study – typically a dedicated workday per week. You will experience work that links the university modules to your work at Unilever, bringing topics such as Programming in Python, Machine Learning / AI models, and statistics into real work applications. You will be supported in travel costs as part of any university or business-related activity.

Recruitment Fraud
Cybercriminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money. In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs. These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.
How is Unilever tackling this?
Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scans for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and acts to close them down.
What can I do?
If you become aware of potential recruitment fraud, spot fake Unilever recruitment adverts or fake LinkedIn profiles, report them via Una Live Chat.
Unilever does not accept responsibility or liability for any candidates who are financially impacted by recruitment fraud. Your vigilance is key!
