
Inspect, repair, and maintain aircraft to ensure safety and reliability
As an aircraft maintenance technician apprentice, you’ll learn how to carry out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on aircraft, including engines, electrical systems, airframes, and avionics. Your role is vital to keeping aircraft safe, airworthy, and compliant with strict aviation regulations.
During your apprenticeship, you’ll develop skills in inspecting parts for wear or damage, replacing components, troubleshooting faults, and performing detailed checks. You’ll learn to work with technical manuals, use specialised tools, and follow health and safety and environmental procedures.
You’ll need excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work accurately under pressure. This role suits those who enjoy practical, hands-on work and have a strong interest in aviation technology.
With experience, you could move into licensed aircraft engineering roles, quality assurance, or supervisory positions within the aviation industry.
Duration: 48 months
Relevant school subjects: Science, maths, engineering
Entry requirements: Level 1 English and maths, with Level 2 required before completing the apprenticeship; employers may set additional entry requirements
Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced) – equivalent to two A-levels
Potential salary upon completion: £26,000–£36,000 per annum
