Provide support and assistance to help with the delivery of content for television or radio shows

A broadcast production assistant provides support and assistance to editorial or technical colleagues to ensure the smooth delivery of content for television or radio productions. During the broadcast production assistant apprenticeship you’ll work on different genres as part of a production team and you’ll need to be adaptable and able to learn quickly on the job, as you’ll build your understanding of the television and radio industry. You may be involved in developing programme ideas, supporting the pitching of these new ideas and then working as part of a production team to develop and deliver the shows. You may find yourself planning projects or events, managing guests, and obtaining and managing resources. You may also need to assist production colleagues in technical support and operational areas such as camera, lighting, sound and editing. For the commercial and independent television and radio sectors, your tasks may also include developing branding, promotions or commercials.

Duration: 12 months

Relevant school subjects: Media studies

Entry requirements for the broadcast production assistant apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience, particularly if a technical ability is demonstrated. A portfolio of previous work may also be required

Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels at grades A to E

Potential salary upon completion: £21,500 per annum
