Commis chef apprenticeship

Prepare food and carry out basic cooking tasks in every section of a kitchen

A commis chef is the most common starting position in many kitchens and the most junior culinary role. During the commis chef apprenticeship you’ll prepare food and carry out basic cooking tasks under the supervision of a more senior chef. Your primary objective as a commis chef will be to learn and understand how to carry out the basic functions in the kitchen. This will give you the opportunity to experience, consider and value each section with a view to choosing an area where you feel most inspired. The journey of any chef will vary from one individual to the next, but it is necessary to understand and have experience in the basics that this role provides—across the culinary, food safety, people and business modules that this apprenticeship covers—in order to progress to any future senior chef role.
