Craft plasterer apprenticeship

Create decorative finishes and restore heritage plasterwork

As a craft plasterer apprentice, you’ll learn to apply decorative plaster finishes to buildings, including new properties and historic restorations. You’ll work with traditional materials to create or repair features like cornices, ceiling roses, columns, and mouldings—preserving the character and beauty of historic interiors.

During your apprenticeship, you’ll gain hands-on skills in fibrous plastering, solid plastering, casting, and restoration. You’ll be trained to work from drawings or templates, use specialist tools, prepare surfaces, and fix ornamental features on walls and ceilings. Attention to detail and precision are key.

You’ll work on site and in workshops, often as part of a small team of skilled tradespeople. This is a physically active role that suits people who are creative, practical, and enjoy working with their hands. You may work on heritage sites, listed buildings, or bespoke decorative projects.

With experience, you could progress to senior craft roles, heritage restoration specialist positions, or even run your own plasterwork business.
