
Assist dentists in providing high-quality dental care to patients
As a dental nurse apprentice, you’ll learn how to support dentists during treatments, prepare equipment and materials, and help maintain a safe and hygienic clinical environment. You’ll also provide care and reassurance to patients throughout their dental visits.
During your apprenticeship, you’ll gain skills in infection control, radiography, record keeping, and communication with patients and the dental team. You’ll work closely with dentists and other dental professionals to ensure smooth and efficient clinical procedures.
You’ll need good attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to follow strict health and safety guidelines. Empathy and patience are essential when working with patients of all ages.
With experience, you could specialise in areas such as sedation nursing, orthodontics, or oral health education, or move into dental practice management roles.
Duration: 18 months
Relevant school subjects: Science, health and social care
Entry requirements: Level 1 English and maths, with Level 2 required before completing the apprenticeship; employers may have additional criteria
Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced) – equivalent to two A-levels
Potential salary upon completion: £18,000–£24,000 per annum
