Forest operative apprenticeship

This apprenticeship is no longer available, why nor consider arboriculturist as an alternative option

Manage trees, plants and the environment in forests and woodland

Forestry is the art, science and practice of woodland establishment, maintenance and management, and timber harvesting. During the forest operative apprenticeship you will carry out the practical operations required to create, maintain and harvest forests and woodlands. You may carry out operations across the range, from planting to harvesting, or specialise in a particular part of the process. You’ll do challenging work outdoors and in all weathers, develop an understanding of the full range of forestry operations, and appreciate the relationship between commercial, environmental and social forestry. The forest operative apprenticeship offers two specialisms, so you’ll need to choose either harvesting or establishment and maintenance. The harvesting option will result in you also achieving a level 3 award in felling and processing trees over a certain height.
