Provide, supervise and coordinate high-quality and compassionate health and social care
A healthcare assistant practitioner works as part of the wider health and social care team and has direct contact with patients, service users or clients, providing high-quality and compassionate care. During the healthcare assistant practitioner apprenticeship, you’ll work toward a level above that of healthcare support workers, so you’ll develop a more in-depth understanding of factors that influence health and ill-health. As a healthcare assistant practitioner, you’ll be able to undertake a wide variety of roles across a range of areas, including cancer services, physiotherapy, genitourinary medicine, orthopaedics, hospice care, mental health, social care, community, occupational therapy and learning disabilities, or a mixture. Examples of common activities that you’ll undertake include assisting in total patient assessment, coordination of care (including referrals to other practitioners) and higher clinical skills such as catheterisation, wound care, and discharge planning. You’ll need to be honest, caring, compassionate, conscientious and committed to treat individuals with dignity and respecting their life choices.
