Intelligence analyst apprenticeship

Identify patterns and trends to make sense of the information and data gathered

Working in the military, law enforcement, security, finance or commerce, an intelligence analyst identifies patterns and trends to make sense of the information and data they are handling. During the intelligence analyst apprenticeship, you’ll monitor events and intelligence reporting to identify items of interest that require further understanding. In particular, you’ll closely examine raw data, facts, statements, opinions and ideas from a wide range of sources, such as telephone data, flight manifests and surveillance records. You’ll pull these together, researching, evaluating and analysing the information to create intelligence. You’ll interpret this intelligence by determining its meaning and significance, and identifying patterns and trends. This could relate to suspect individuals and groups, problem areas or discrepancies and gaps in knowledge. You’ll produce verbal and written briefings and reports so an organisation can better understand the threats, harm and risks it is facing and allow senior decision makers to make informed judgements. This may relate to tax evasion, passport fraud, people smuggling, organised crime or military deployments. Other tasks could include providing a crime network chart and assisting a criminal prosecution and attending court to provide evidence.
