Create knitted products to customer specifications and quality standards
Working in the manufacturing, creative and design sectors, during the knitted product manufacturing technician apprenticeship you’ll create products used in the clothing, medical, construction and automotive industries. Products could be wide-ranging, from luxury clothing to fast fashion, plasters to implantable medical devices and pond liners to road underlay. In your role, you’ll be responsible for creating knitted components to meet customer specifications, using different methods to create the required finish. For example, weft knitting produces a shaped component, while warp knitting produces fabric yardage. You’ll have good attention to detail, as you’ll be following design briefs. In your daily work, you’ll select the raw materials and machines appropriate for the job, select the programme and set up specialist knitting machines to produce the item to specification. You’ll need to carry out any maintenance on the machines and work efficiently to meet production deadlines. Typically you’ll work alongside a designer, sample maker and other production staff.
