Model maker apprenticeship

Design and create precise models for products, prototypes, and displays

As a model maker apprentice, you’ll learn how to build accurate physical models using a variety of materials such as wood, plastic, metal, and foam. These models are used in industries including engineering, architecture, manufacturing, and entertainment to test ideas or showcase designs.

During your apprenticeship, you’ll develop skills in interpreting technical drawings, using hand tools and computer-controlled machinery, and applying finishing techniques like sanding, painting, and detailing. You’ll also gain knowledge of health and safety, materials science, and quality control.

You’ll need good attention to detail, manual dexterity, and problem-solving abilities. Working both independently and as part of a team, you’ll contribute to creating high-quality models that support product development and marketing.

With experience, you could progress to specialist roles in digital modelling, prototype development, or move into design and production management.
