Ensure nuclear systems and equipment operate safely and efficiently

During the nuclear scientist and engineer apprenticeship, you’ll develop the skills and knowledge needed to ensure that nuclear systems and equipment operate safely, efficiently and in an environmentally friendly way. You’ll be able to analyse engineering and scientific problems, and know which tools will deliver the best results to nuclear technologies, across decommissioning (for example, remote handling and robotics), waste management, reprocessing and nuclear power generation. This apprenticeship will develop you into a knowledgeable and skilled engineer and scientist, giving you the tools you need to effectively carry out a role whose tasks include design, plant performance enhancements, operational management, project management and maintenance of safety standards. On completion, you’ll hold a bachelor’s degree.

 

Duration: 36 months

Relevant school subjects: Science

Entry requirements for the nuclear scientist and engineer apprenticeship: Five GCSEs, including English, maths and science; and 96 UCAS points or level 3 qualification, or equivalents

Achievement upon completion: Level 6 (Degree)—equivalent to a bachelor’s degree

Potential salary upon completion: £35,000 per annum
