Revenue and welfare benefit practitioner apprenticeship

Perform various roles in local authorities such as benefit assessment, revenues calculation or customer service

On the revenue and welfare benefit practitioner apprenticeship you’ll administer a large section of public finances, at local authorities or their contractors, software companies that provide processing services to authorities, housing associations, or organisations supporting people in their dealings with local authorities. Your responsibilities will include dealing with customers to gather information and explain complex matters, maintaining records, advising customers to maximise their income, and understanding the issues they face. A revenue or tax role will see you establishing liability, setting up and updating accounts, calculating tax due, arranging payment and taking recovery action. A role focused on welfare will include assessing eligibility for housing benefit and local council tax support, calculating benefit entitlement, arranging payments, recalculating benefits following changes in circumstances, taking action to recover overpaid amounts, and finding and reporting suspected fraud.
