
Contribute to the operation of a science industry plant by installing, maintaining, testing and repairing equipment
A science industry maintenance technician contributes to the smooth and safe operation of a plant in the chemical, petrochemical, polymer, primary and secondary pharmaceutical, biotechnology, formulated products, engineering, and nuclear manufacturing sectors, through the installation, maintenance, testing and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment and instrumentation. On the science industry maintenance technician apprenticeship, you’ll use proactive problem solving skills to find solutions and identify areas for improvement. On top of core engineering skills, you’ll also develop an understanding of and the ability to follow critical working practices. You should be aware that the companies for which you’ll work will operate under highly regulated conditions, so they place a premium on appropriate attitudes and behaviour to ensure apprentices comply with safety and regulatory requirements at all times.

Entry requirements for the science industry maintenance technician apprenticeship: GCSEs in English and maths at grade C or above, and a STEM subject at level 2
Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels
Potential salary upon completion: £26,000 per annum
