Undertake basic operations and the monitoring of plant and equipment

The science manufacturing process operative is employed across scientific industries, including nuclear, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. During the science manufacturing process operative apprenticeship, you’ll train in the basic operation and monitoring of plant and equipment used in these industries, including pumps, valves, temperature gauges, filtration equipment, tanks, vessels, and production/processing machinery. You may also learn to safely operate machines to process and manufacture, assemble and finish component parts or finished products by hand. You’ll learn to use specialist safety equipment and comply with good manufacturing process regulations, as well as contribute to the maintenance of product quality and be involved in basic process improvement opportunities. You’ll develop the appropriate level of knowledge of health and safety requirements within the industry and basic operating procedures.

 

Duration: 18 months

Relevant school subjects: Science

Entry requirements for the science manufacturing process operative apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications

Achievement upon completion: Level 2 (Intermediate)—equivalent to GCSEs at grades A* to C

Potential salary upon completion: £24,000 per annum
