Systems engineer apprenticeship

Systems engineering is an interdisciplinary field of engineering and engineering management that focuses on how to design and manage complex systems over their lifecycles. The systems engineer apprenticeship is found in any sector where complex engineered systems are required, such as transport, telecommunications and infrastructure. In your daily work, you’ll interact with project managers or personnel from business development or sales functions. You’ll assemble and manage teams of domain specialists and subject matter experts in specific technology or scientific areas. You’ll often work in a customer-facing role ensuring that the system meets customer and user needs and preferences, often with responsibility for technical and business communication. The role is mostly office-based, although site visits may be needed during implementation of designed systems. On completion, you’ll achieve a master’s degree in systems engineering.

Duration: 48 months

Relevant school subjects: Science and engineering

Entry requirements for the systems engineer apprenticeship: A level 6 STEM qualification and two years of relevant experience; a level 5 STEM qualification and five years of relevant experience; or a level 3 or 4 STEM qualification and 10 years of relevant experience

Achievement upon completion: Level 7 (Degree)—equivalent to a master’s degree

Potential salary upon completion: £40,000 per annum
