Keep goods moving smoothly by managing road transport operations
As a traffic operator apprentice, you’ll learn how to plan and coordinate the movement of goods by road, ensuring deliveries arrive safely, legally, and on time. You’ll work with drivers, clients, and warehouse teams to handle transport schedules, documentation, and customer service.
During your apprenticeship, you’ll gain skills in route planning, vehicle tracking, transport law, and dealing with issues such as delays or driver shortages. You’ll also learn how to manage paperwork, communicate effectively, and use digital systems to monitor operations.
You’ll need to be organised, calm under pressure, and a good problem-solver. Strong communication and IT skills are essential, along with a good understanding of geography and logistics.
With experience, you could progress to roles such as transport manager, logistics planner, or fleet controller.
