“Swimming or tennis coaching in a community setting”
Novice coaches who want to work in the active leisure sector should consider this apprenticeship, with a focus on either swimming or tennis. The intermediate apprenticeship pathway for either sport would teach you the necessary skills to coach at a youth club or other community setting. The advanced apprenticeship pathway, which is available only in tennis, caters for coaching at elite levels. If you wish to undertake a level 2 swimming or tennis programme, you’ll need an interest in and aptitude for either swimming or tennis, and may have already gained experience in voluntary and support roles. The level 3 coaching apprenticeship requires you to already hold at least one of three qualifications in tennis coaching, as well as Association of Tennis Professionals or Women’s Tennis Association world ranking points in singles or doubles.
Duration: 12 months
Relevant school subjects: PE
Entry requirements: Level 3 (Advanced): 1st4sport Level 2 Diploma in Coaching Tennis, 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching tennis, or the 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Tennis
Achievement upon completion: Level 2 (Intermediate)—equivalent to GCSEs; Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels
Potential salary upon completion: £30,000 per annum
