“Preparing and leading a range of outdoor activities for recreation, adventure tourism, and education and training”
Outdoor activities encompass outdoor recreation, adventure tourism, and education and training, and require leaders to ensure that they are safe, engaging and inclusive. On this apprenticeship, you’ll undertake an instructor, trainee, supervisor, activity-specific or counsellor role. Your responsibilities may include preparing and leading a specific programme of activities, managing finance and resources, liaising with a range of internal and/or external individuals and organisations, and focusing on the pastoral care of participants. A passion for the outdoors is an absolute must for this apprenticeship, as are a positive, motivating, can-do attitude and a willing to work both as part of a team or on your own. You should also be willing to work shifts, sometimes unsociable hours and travel between sites.
Duration: 12 months
Relevant school subjects: PE
Entry requirements: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications
Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels
Potential salary upon completion: £18,000 per annum
