“Working within photo imagery or photography to achieve commercial and creative results”

This advanced apprenticeship is designed to give apprentices the skills to work in the photo imaging sector, either as a photographer, or in digital image production, photo retail or picture libraries. As an apprentice photographer, you’ll find job opportunities in the armed forces and the police, in photographic studios, or as school or event photographers. You may also be able to undertake this apprenticeship in a non-photographer context, in a role such as a minilab printer, digital imaging technician or picture library keyworder. This apprenticeship will develop your technical proficiency and your creativity, visual awareness and business acumen. You’ll need to be motivated and self-sufficient, committed and enthusiastic, with a strong passion for photography and imagery.

Duration: 18 months

Relevant school subjects: Art and ICT

Entry requirements: A portfolio of evidence from work experience or volunteering; or GCSEs or equivalent qualifications

Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels

Potential salary upon completion: £20,000 per annum
