The next generation of tech superstars have arrived with Aviva apprenticeships

Year 10 and 11 students across Bristol, Norwich and York have successfully completed Aviva’s first ever week-long Technology Work Placement.

During the first week of July, students fully immersed themselves in working life at Aviva, one of the UK’s leading Insurance, Wealth & Retirement businesses with 18.7 million customers. The students got to grips with valuable transferable skills in communication, teamwork, project work and delivering tasks against a deadline at the company’s Bristol, Norwich and York sites.

Students also participated in various workshops to support their future careers, including key skills like CV writing, interview preparation, and protecting their health and well-being.

Fraser, a student on the Aviva placement in Norwich, said: “The week was amazing. We had talks from people from all over the company and have gained experience working with different apps. The people were amazing – our leaders for the work experience, other students on the work experience and Aviva employees, who always smiled at you when you walked by.”

Lucie Grainger, Head of IT Care at Aviva, said: “The technology work placement was not just for those with a background in technology and aimed to show young people that careers in tech, and at Aviva, are for everyone.

“In 2023 it’s more important than ever that we empower young people in our local communities to take control of their futures and equip them with fundamental career skills as they prepare for life beyond school. At Aviva, we take pride in providing opportunities to the next generation as well as strengthening our relationships with the communities we work in.

Across the week, we’ve seen some brilliant project work and had heart-warming feedback from students undertaking the placement that they now feel optimistic about their future, both in the workplace and beyond.”

Evie, a student on the Technology Work Placement in York, said: “I learnt so many different skills while having a lot of fun. I liked how it felt like a real work environment and I would definitely do it again.”

Aviva’s Technology Work Placement is just the tip of the iceberg: the company currently offers apprenticeships in tech, data, customer and service, and underwriting and risk management.
