Set up and maintain communications systems
A unified communications technician establishes and maintains communications systems, such as telephone and internet, under supervision. In this role, you’ll use a range of remote and physical tools and equipment, and install basic communication hardware and software. You’ll also deal with routine service requests from internal and external sources, including fault rectification across a range of technologies, applying security principals in line with legal and organisational requirements. The unified communications technician role will require you to work alone or as part of a team, and could be office-based, field-based, or in remote sites as required. To succeed in this apprenticeship, you’ll need to be a logical and creative thinker, as well as analytical and a good problem-solver. This apprenticeship is recognised for entry onto the register of IT technicians.
Duration: 24 months
Relevant school subjects: ICT
Entry requirements: Five GCSEs, other relevant qualifications and experience, or an aptitude test with a focus on ICT skills
Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels
Potential salary upon completion: £21,000 per annum
