“No two days are the same” at National Highways
Hello, I’m Freya, a financial data technician apprentice in the business delivery unit.
What made you decide to do an apprenticeship with National Highways?
I knew National Highways had a strong apprenticeship programme, offering the support and opportunities needed to succeed in any career path.
What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?
The support from the Early Talent Network; it connects me with others and ensures I never feel alone in my journey.
What does a typical day look like?
I support my team with various tasks and projects—no two days are the same. I also dedicate one day a week to studying.
What have you learned about yourself?
I’ve learned that I can do it! With my team’s support, I’ve gained the confidence to tackle any task.
What has made you most proud?
Being recognised by directors and senior management. I didn’t expect apprentices to have such visibility, but National Highways values us as key team members.
What skill have you gained that you now rely on?
Microsoft Excel! I started with basic skills, but after passing the Excel Associate exam, I now use it confidently and effectively.
What advice would you give someone interested in an apprenticeship with National Highways?
Seize every opportunity, even if it’s outside your comfort zone. You’ll grow in unexpected ways.
What are your career aspirations?
I’m still exploring, which is why this apprenticeship is perfect—it offers experience across different teams.
