David O’Domhnaill started his journey at Royal Mail as a level 4 project management apprentice after finishing college.
“During year 12, I realised that university wasn’t for me and I wanted a hands-on approach to learning in a live environment. Royal Mail’s apprenticeship scheme sounded like the ideal option, offering a professional qualification with a competitive salary whilst I learned new skills.
During my time at Royal Mail I have developed my communication and time management skills, going from a confident but disorganised A-level student to a professional project team member. I have been given responsibility over a deployment impacting 1000s of employees and have been able to successfully implement a solution.”
Recognising how the apprenticeship is contributing to his future aspirations, David said: “The apprenticeship has taught me how to effectively apply project management skills to meet objectives. These technical skills are transferable all around the business and I have improved my communication skills and become more confident at articulating my ideas.
“My advice for anyone thinking of applying for an apprenticeship would be to just go for it. Gaining experience alongside professional qualifications is an efficient way of working and the opportunities provided at Royal Mail are truly first class.”
