Sonia Bhari is a finance apprentice at Sky
Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship at Sky?
I always knew I wanted to work in accountancy and also loved the idea of working for a large corporation. When I saw the Sky apprenticeship position online, I immediately applied because the scheme seemed super interesting, with opportunities to rotate across the whole business, such as content to technology. Especially on a management accountant scheme, you’re not dealing with just financials alone, as the work influences business decisions. I’ve grown up as a Sky customer too, so was keen to learn about the business itself, plus of course, the campus in Osterley is unreal!
What has been the highlight of your apprenticeship?
My first rotation has been working within the content department in Sky Studios. This role has meant that alongside the financials, we keep up-to-date with how shows are performing, such as viewing data and looking at upcoming shows, which is always exciting to hear about. Anyone who knows me knows I’m obsessed with Friends and being present in content meetings where updates were ongoing about Sky being able to show the Friends Reunion was definitely a big highlight for me, as I genuinely had such a personal interest in the conversations.
What has been most rewarding project or experience you’ve been involved in?
I think the most rewarding project I’ve worked on is putting together a financials data pack for my business area. I built it up from scratch with the mindset of being a very accessible single source for all financials and commentary over the past couple of years. Seeing it being used by my immediate team is extremely rewarding as it’s definitely a useful piece of work for them and something I have complete ownership of. I will also have the opportunity to present the file in a team meeting and share it across the wider team, which will be another rewarding highlight for me.
