Sky: Stacy Watson

Stacy Watson is an apprentice DTV engineer at Sky

What has been most rewarding project or experience you’ve been involved in?

It has to be working during the coronavirus pandemic, trying to get customers back up and connected. So many people have been unable to see family and friends, go out or go to work. Knowing we are there for the customers in difficult times to get them back up and connected has been a great feeling. Having a job that is rewarding has been so fulfilling, especially over the past 18 months.

Being part of the women in home service has to be a highlight for me, too. Having positive feedback from customers saying how great it is to see a female doing a male dominated job.

How has this apprenticeship helped your career?

This apprenticeship has helped me learn so much more than I would have done if I came in just as an engineer. It’s helped me to give the best possible customer service for our customers; to learn more about different parts of the business I wouldn’t necessarily learn about it; to be more confident when going into customers’ homes; to learn that there are all different types of customers, and to adapt my approach to fit the situation I am in.

Would you recommend a career in home service?

Yes I would recommend a career in home service. This has been the best job I’ve ever had in my working life. This job is not your average 9-5 job that is monotonous, it’s physically and mentally challenging. No two days are the same, as each home and each customer is different. It’s the constant thinking about what’s the best way to do the job. This job has kept me on my toes and helped me grow so much in confidence, in drive and in happiness.

What advice would you give to someone applying for or considering this apprenticeship?

If I could give anyone any advice about this job it would be to just go for it! It’s been the best thing I have done, so take a chance on yourself. You never know what you are capable of until you try.

It’s been great for me as I get bored very easily, with this job I don’t get chance to get bored. I’m constantly looking for ways to learn and grow. Just go for it!
