Kemika Duncan, an apprentice surveyor at Cushman & Wakefield, reveals why she chose an apprenticeship
“When I found this apprenticeship programme online, I knew straight away that it would be an excellent opportunity to learn the profession in a working environment. As I am a practical learner and someone who thrives when learning from others, I knew that the apprenticeship programme would be perfect for me. Like most students, I wanted to go to university to get a degree. However, most of the courses that I looked into didn’t appeal to me, and I wholly disliked the idea of having to take on so much debt!”
“Without a doubt, taking the apprenticeship route into the property industry was the best decision I ever made. It has given me the skills and confidence that empowers me, knowing that I can proactively create the future that I want. Besides the knowledge I have gained from the workplace, I have also been able to study for my degree while earning and without any debt at the end. As for the social element, I have met some truly wonderful and like-minded people, who I know I will be friends with for life.”
“Many people view an apprenticeship as a ‘Plan B’. However, being on this one, I have gained a wealth of experience and most importantly built many vital relationships that would have otherwise been impossible to establish had I just been at university full-time. Since starting on the scheme, I have always felt supported and challenged to fulfil my potential.”
