JTL: Mitchell Shore

Mitchell Shore, an electrician from Derby, was JTL’s National Apprentice of the Year

Mitchell, an electrician from Derby, was named JTL National Apprentice of the Year 2015/16 at the training provider’s annual awards. Mitchell completed his apprenticeship with M&R Electrical in Burton-upon-Trent and has since gone on to set up his own business, LECAW Electrical Services.

Mitchell proved himself to be an excellent apprentice, working four days a week on site for his employer and spending one day a week at Derby College.

“It took me several seconds to realise I had won the JTL National Apprentice of the Year award, especially because the other candidates had such great experience and credentials behind them,” Mitchell said. “I felt truly elated and I was also pretty humbled by the whole experience. It definitely goes down as one of the most exciting and challenging few minutes of my life so far!”

For Mitchell, the experience he gained working on contracts in London art galleries during his apprenticeship was a real highlight. He also invested long hours balancing his academic studies and practical assessments with working on site, latterly on unsupervised projects. His commitment paid off and saw him passing all his exams with distinctions.

Since completing his apprenticeship and after careful consideration, Mitchell has set up his own growing electrical contracting business. He works across the domestic, commercial and industrial sectors, as well as in local schools, colleges and universities. He hopes to take on apprentices of his own, to build his growing team and move towards his goal of exceeding a £1 million turnover, as set out in his business plan.
