Jordan Miller is training to become a chef with an apprenticeship at Marriott hotels
Marriott, with the support of training partner Babcock, launched its culinary apprenticeship academy in 2012 with an aim to provide young people with a career in the culinary and hospitality industry. Since then, over 100 young apprentice chefs have been signed onto the programme, with those completing the programme going onto become commis chefs in a UK Marriott hotel. Jordan Miller was one such aspiring chef who applied through the academy and joined the team at the West India Quay Marriott hotel in Canary Wharf, London.
Jordan says: “I had always loved cooking and had been in other catering jobs but I felt the apprenticeship at the academy would provide me with a real insight into the career of a chef and provide me with real-time experience, especially learning under the pressure of a busy kitchen. The apprenticeship has given me the life skills to manage my time both in and outside of work and has given me more confidence and skills in my job.”
“Working for Marriott is brilliant!” he added. “Once I have achieved my apprenticeship, I’ll have the opportunity to travel to other hotels both in the UK and abroad which will be a dream come true. They are very supportive in my progression and want to help me keep moving forward in my career. At the academy I have met some great people who all want the same thing, it has given me life skills and lifelong friends and I have loved being a part of it.”
