South Leicestershire College: Tom Richings

Tom Richings, 20, from Hinckley, completed a commercial apprenticeship with Triumph and South Leicestershire College

Tom progressed to an apprenticeship after completing his A-levels, deciding he wanted to work full-time and earn a wage rather than go to university and accumulate debts.

During his apprenticeship with Triumph, Tom worked in the parts, clothing and accessories department, specialising at first in marketing then moving on to a role in management planning.

As part of his role, Tom has travelled to France, Italy, Portugal and Germany, and a recent project involved him selling old stock to 16 markets in 43 different countries. Tom was involved in every part of the project from market research, to planning and promotion.

When asked about his apprenticeship, Tom said: “Doing an apprenticeship was 100 per cent the right decision for me. It has helped massively, especially in terms of developing life skills. Here at Triumph you are given a lot of responsibility—what you do as part of your role affects the business on a massive scale.”

“There is nothing more important than experience and an apprenticeship really helps you to gain that.”
